Recruiting
Blogging is new to me, but I have to tell you recruiting isn't. I feel so fortunate that my specialty is in advertising recruiting. I am in some groups and websites with other recruiters and they are feeling real pain due to our economy. Where are the jobs? Fortunately, I have plenty to work on and people are getting hired. January has been a great month! One thing I have noticed with my peers, is they are spending too much time reading and listening to bad news. They need to find the places that are still growing and profiting. There may be a lot of jobs lost, but how many of those jobs are blue collar that we don't even touch in recruiting? I wish I could just scream, "don't listen to the news!". Make it happen, think outside your box, get back to basics and start marketing an exceptional candidate that you just interviewed!

Another Recruiting day
It is so much fun when I get in touch with someone and we have a live talk! Voicemail is so frustrating and I am impatient. All day long I had to leave one message after another. Generally they call back, but it is very draining for me, when I don't have someone to talk to. My energy goes down, down, down. But when that time comes and they call me back, boy do I get excited. I love people. They are interesting, friendly and helpful. If they aren't the right person, more often than not, they know someone who would be a better fit and the hunt goes on. Right now we are searching for some people in Dallas. That is a town I love to recruit for, maybe because I enjoy the energy, the warmth, the cosmopolitan lifestyle in the south. Well it has been another exciting day in the life of an Advertising Recruiter!

Control Freak? I am not!
I was just thinking about Control Freaks! If you are a control freak, recruiting is not the business for you. You have so little control over what people do and your business is all about people. The only thing I can control is me. My attitude, my beliefs, my passion. I have choices and control those choices about how hard I work, how I treat others, but a control freak, I'm not. I want to be "in the know", but I am not trying to control anything. "Being in the know" allows you to head off disaster or makes you aware of what is or is not to come. I consider myself a realist, wanting to know the facts, but control nothing. How about you?

Advertising Recruiting
I love what I do. Recruiting... I get to talk to some of the most creative people in Advertising. They' re interesting, funny, passionate and so innovative with how they think. In the recruiting business, my job is to find the top talent. And for your information, the Top Talent doesn't generally come looking for me. They are very busy with their careers and moving up that corporate ladder. My client companies who pay my fee, the "Agency", are sometimes looking for 2-5 year people and they are the hardest to find. They don't seem to be saavvy on Linkedin and they are hidden within the agency. It seems like the buzz across the country is retail environments, consumer insights, digital, new media. New ways to hook that consumer! Where the internet is great to shop on, I love shopping on-line, a lot of people seem to have a need to touch and feel the product, so there is this battle between retail environments and online advertising or maybe not a battle but how they try to work together. Most Agencies won't hand out that simple placement or position, they only give me the one that challenges them and I have found....I embrace that challenge and enjoy looking for that very special person with that very special skill set. I find the best people brand themselves and the best agencies have a brand they call their own.
